Environmental Policy

In pursuit of our goal - to be the best sub-contractor to the new housing market - Manhattan recognises that our daily activities relating to products and services inevitably impact on the environment. As part of a continuing drive for quality in all areas of our business, we aim to minimise any harm that our business might generate.

The company, in setting out this environmental management system, gives a clear policy commitment to the following:

  • Monitoring and continuously improving the company's quality and environmental performance through objectives and targets and the minimising of pollution;
  • Meeting and where possible exceeding, all relevant regulatory requirements and minimising adverse environmental affects that may occur as a result of our activities or products;
  • Wherever practicable, using materials, components and designs that minimise the environmental impact, both in production and whole life and final disposal;
  • Taking our environmental responsibilities very seriously and working hard with our suppliers to ensure that all timber products are obtained from controlled and sustainable sources;
  • Acquiring Chain of Custody certification or FSC accreditation to provide evidence that materials originate from certified, well-managed forests and verifies that these products are not mixed with materials from uncertified forests at any point in the supply chain;
  • Minimising the use of all materials, supplies and energy and evaluating waste streams for re-use and recycling potential;
  • Working towards a sustainability programme encompassing purchasing, waste streams, end-of-life management, ethical policies, community relations, employment conditions and our corporate social responsibilities;
  • Reviewing and updating this policy on a regular basis to ensure it reflects the company's progress in meeting these stated aims.

Sustainable development issues are becoming increasingly important to governments and consumers, reflecting a desire for products to be manufactured sustainably. The government is actively encouraging sectors to develop this ethos and the furniture industry has embraced its own programme.
